Kuretake Clean Color Dot: Hobonichi cousin test

Recently, I posted a reel on Instagram demonstrating how the Kuretake Zig Clean Color Dot markers faired on Happy Planner paper. This week, I’m demonstrating how the markers fair on 52 gsm Tomoe River paper in the Hobonichi Cousin Avec planner. I’ve been using a Cousin intermittently for about a year and a half. In that time, I haven’t had much bleed-through, but since the paper is so thin, I experience a lot of ghosting with various pens and markers.

The Zig Clean Color dot markers are no different. Like in the Happy Planner demo, I tried a variety of different colors and varied my pressure from left to right. No matter the pressure, I experienced ghosting with all of the colors and pressure, but thankfully, no bleed-through! I experienced ghosting more noticeably with darker colors. If you want to limit the amount of ghosting, I’d suggest a light hand with some of the pastel colors. If pastels aren’t you’re thing, the color grey in Platinum is a great neutral color, that will go with a lot of spreads.

One thing I will recommend when using these markers in this planner is to give a little extra time for the dots to dry before you write over them, otherwise, you will experience feathering or smearing depending on how inky the pen is; gel especially!

Have you tried these two together? If so, what did you think?
